Broken Records Magazine's Markos Papadatos chatted with veteran country songstress Janie Fricke about her newest CD Country Side of Bluegrass.
In 1982 and 1983, Janie Fricke was crowned "Female Vocalist of the Year" by the Country Music Association (CMA); furthermore, she garnered the Academy of Country Music’s "Top Female Vocalist" honor in 1983. Throughout her illustrious career in country, Janie received two Grammy nominations, recorded twenty-three studio albums, and had 36 hit singles on country radio.
According to Janie Fricke, she states, "I started out as a studio musician, being a backup singer on other singer’s records." Her backing vocals appear on albums of such legendary artists as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Ronnie Milsap, Barbara Mandrell, Frank Sinatra Jr., and Elvis Presley. "We were a full-time working vocal group and we got a lot of work," she acknowledges.
