On May 24, veteran country music songstress Janie Fricke chatted via telephone with Country Pulse about her recent musical endeavors.

She is one of country music’s original 80’s ladies and she is being spotlighted in one of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s latest exhibits, which will run through April 2015. Her artifacts on display in the “Radio Romance: Mainstream Country in the 1980s” exhibit featured her stage costume when she performed at Camp David for President Ronald Reagan in 1981, as well as her 1982 Country Music Association (CMA) award for “Female Vocalist of the Year” and her 1983 Academy of Country Music (ACM) award for “Top Female Vocalist.”

“I am really excited about that opportunity to be in the museum. They had that dress in storage for several years and they decided to pull it out and display the outfit. It was the one I used when I sang in front of President Reagan at Camp David,” she said.

In February of 2012, she released her critically acclaimed “Country Side of Bluegrass” album. “I had a lot of fun recording that album, since I was pleased doing my original country hits in a bluegrass style. It was a new venture for me,” she said. “‘You Don’t Know Love’ was my favorite pick. It came off so perfectly since it had a real easy tempo and I just loved the production on that one. ‘Ring of Fire’ was another fun song to do. I am glad that we added that one in. I toured with Johnny Cash in Europe way back in the day and I remember doing those European concerts, so I thought I would put that one in there,” Janie said.

Janie Reflects on George Jones

Saturday, 27 April 2013 13:36

My producer, Billy Sherrill was the one who put me on George's duet album, and I must search to see what that duet was, so long ago.

I remember the show in Goshen, IN, when he pulled me up on stage to sing a few while , he took a break! That one song turned into 20 min. on his stage, his show! Nancy asked us up on the bus, while cooking a pot of beans!

I remember the Ohio fair, at a George Jones show, when Tammy cancelled, and they flew us in to replace her part . He had me sing Golden Ring, and I was thankful the floor monitor showed the lyrics to help me thru!

I remember our tour in Europe, singing in 6 countries, and how I got to visit with George and Nancy, and how thrilled I was to be a part. Those , and many others , are the precious memories I will have forever.

JanieFricke publicity_sm“George Jones was one of the most endearing, warm and friendly people I have ever had the privilege to meet. I have been lucky enough to work with George and Nancy and I am so blessed to have been a small part of their lives for a short time. While I am deeply saddened, I know his legend will live on.”
